Applying for a Marriage License
To apply for a Marriage License, please fill out a Marriage License Application for both parties and bring it to our Real Estate Department at the Burlington office located at 2950 Washington Sq. Burlington KY, 41005 during normal business hours. NO APPOINTMENT NECCESSARY.
Here’s a list of things you need to know when applying for a Marriage License:

- Both parties must be present at time of applying
- Both parties must present a valid form of ID*
- A $50.00 fee will be collected for the marriage license
- The license is valid for 30 days from the date it was issued
- The license fee is non-refundable
- The license MUST be used within the State of Kentucky
*Valid Forms of Identification:
Both parties must be 18 years or older and present one of the following:

- Any State Driver’s License or State Picture I.D.
- Certified U.S. birth certificate
- Passport, Visa, or Green Card with a picture and translated into English
If you are under the age of 18 years old, per KRS 402.210, a license shall not be issued unless the parties get a court order from Family Court or District Court.
Solemnization of Marriage:
There are no residency or licensing requirements applicable to ministers or priests who wish to perform marriages in Kentucky.
Marriages shall be solemnized only by Clergy, Justices, and Judges of the Court of Justice; retired Justices and Judges of the Court of Justice, except those removed for cause or convicted of a felony; County Judge/Executives; such Magistrates and Fiscal Court Commissioners as the Governor or the County Judge Executive authorizes, and certain religious societies.
At least two people, in addition to the parties and the person solemnizing the marriage, must be present at every marriage. These two people will represent as the witnesses and print their names on the marriage license.
Obtain a Copy/Certified Copy of a Marriage License
We offer several ways for you to obtain a copy/certified copy of a marriage license.
Regular Copy $.50 | Certified Copy $5.00
- Bride’s first name and maiden last name
- Groom’s first and last name
- Date of marriage (just the year will suffice)
