Open Records Policy
Boone County Clerk


Open Records Requests will be processed according to the following policy
:

  1. Certain items may be excluded in whole or in part if they contain exempted information as prescribed under KRS 61.878
  1. Requests must be made in writing, signed by the requestor, with the requestor’s name printed legibly on the request. Requests must describe the records to be inspected specifically.  A statement explaining how the requestor qualifies as a resident of the Commonwealth under KRS 61.870(10) must be included.
  1. A phone number, address and/or email address is not required but may help process your request.
  • Requests should be sent to the Boone County Clerk at:

  • Requests may be hand-delivered, mailed or sent via fax to (859) 498-8729, during regular office hours.
  • The request may also be emailed to the County Clerk, [email protected] Please do not send any attachments with emails, as we are unable to open them due to security reasons.  All information must be included in the body of the email.
  • All open records requests may be submitted on the Open Records Request Form if the requestor so chooses: Standardized Open Records Request Form  If the form is not used all information from number two above and number 5 below (if applicable) must be contained in the request.
  1. A response to the request will be made within five (5) working days from the date an application is received (excepting Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays) and the requestor will be notified in writing of the decision within the five (5) day period.
  1. Applicants requesting copies of public records for a commercial purpose KRS 61.874 must provide a certified statement to the Boone County Clerk stating the commercial purpose for which the records will be used. If approved, applicants will be required to enter into a contract with the Boone County Clerk. The contract will state the fee required by the Boone County Clerk to produce the copies, including labor and production costs.
  1. The Boone County Clerk’s office is funded by collecting statutory fees. Accordingly, copies of records are first subjected to the fee schedules established by KRS 64.012 and KRS 64.019. Otherwise, copies will be charged at:
  • Non-commercial document requests $ .50 per copy
  • Non-commercial recordings, computer discs, tapes $5.00 per copy
  1. All fees, including postage if necessary, must be paid in advance.
